## What it does

The MCP server lets an agent query Flightradar24 API data. It can filter live flights by location, route, callsign, registration, or aircraft type, and retrieve historical positions and takeoff or landing summaries. Other tools return a particular flight’s track or reference details for an airport or airline.

You’ll need Node.js 18.0.0 or later and a Flightradar24 API key set as `FR24_API_KEY`. In Claude Code, add the server with `claude mcp add`. Historical position searches require a Unix timestamp; live position searches need at least one filter. The API key is required for the server to retrieve data.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `FR24_API_KEY` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add fr24api-mcp -e FR24_API_KEY=<FR24_API_KEY> -- npx -y @flightradar24/fr24api-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add fr24api-mcp --env FR24_API_KEY=<FR24_API_KEY> -- npx -y @flightradar24/fr24api-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "fr24api-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@flightradar24/fr24api-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "FR24_API_KEY": "<FR24_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "fr24api-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@flightradar24/fr24api-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "FR24_API_KEY": "<FR24_API_KEY>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e FR24_API_KEY=<FR24_API_KEY> fr24api-mcp npx -y @flightradar24/fr24api-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values

## When to use it
- locate active flights within a set of geographic bounds
- filter live aircraft by route or callsign
- retrieve past flight positions for a Unix timestamp
- inspect a flight path using its flight ID
- look up an airport by its IATA or ICAO code

## Example prompts
- Find active flights within these bounds: 41.0,-74.5,40.5,-73.5.
- Look up past flights at JFK for timestamp 1640995200.
- Show the track for flight ID 2f4a8b3c.
