# FlowLeap Patent AI

A remote MCP server gives AI access to EPO and USPTO records, patent search, OCR, and PATSTAT analysis. Use it when a coding agent needs patent research.

## What it does

FlowLeap Patent AI connects Claude Code to remote patent-data tools for EPO and USPTO records. It can search patents, retrieve bibliographic details, claims, descriptions, families, citations, legal events, and prosecution documents. OCR handles text extraction from PDFs, images, and office documents. The server also reaches academic and non-patent literature.

PATSTAT tools cover applicant portfolios, CPC technology views, citation and family links, and guarded read-only SQL `SELECT` queries over documented views. The service exposes 49 read-only tools, plus 6 resources and 3 prompts for PATSTAT workflows. A FlowLeap account and the `patent-data` scope are required, so authentication is a prerequisite before the server can be used.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://api.flowleap.co/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http flowleap https://api.flowleap.co/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add flowleap-patent-ai --url https://api.flowleap.co/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "flowleap-patent-ai": {
            "url": "https://api.flowleap.co/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "flowleap-patent-ai": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://api.flowleap.co/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http flowleap-patent-ai https://api.flowleap.co/mcp
```

## When to use it
- search EPO or USPTO patent records
- compare the bibliographic data of several patents
- trace patent families, citations, and legal events
- inspect an applicant portfolio in PATSTAT
- extract text from a patent PDF or office document

## Example prompts
- Search EPO OPS for patents about this topic and explain the query syntax.
- Compare `EP1234567` and `US12345678`, including their families and citations.
- Use PATSTAT to map this applicant’s filings by year and office.
