# Finology Student Loan Calculator

## What it does

The server compares Standard, RAP, IBR, PAYE, and ICR plans, including monthly payments, lifetime loan cost, projected forgiveness, and tax on forgiven amounts. It also explains why a borrower is excluded from a plan. Calculations run on Finology’s servers; the local package connects through `npx` and needs no API key or account.

Separate tools compare the loan costs of joint and separate tax filing for married borrowers, and estimate a RAP payment. The RAP estimate requires the borrower’s AGI. The filing comparison covers loan costs but not the tax effects of filing separately, so it cannot settle the full tax decision.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.finology.tech/free`
- Environment variables: `FINOLOGY_API_BASE_URL` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
