# Ferritin — Rust documentation

Ferritin lets an agent search and read Rust standard-library and crates.io documentation. Use it to check an API while working in a coding chat.

## What it does

The server gives an agent a way to look up Rust documentation, including the standard library and crates published on crates.io. Ask it to find a type or method, then use the documentation to clarify what that API does.

For local workspace docs, Ferritin’s terminal viewer needs a nightly toolchain; standard-library docs need the `rust-docs-json` component. Those prerequisites apply to local viewing, not to connecting the MCP server. Claude Code connects over HTTP at `https://ferritin.rs/mcp`.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://ferritin.rs/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http rustdoc https://ferritin.rs/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add ferritin-rust-documentation --url https://ferritin.rs/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "ferritin-rust-documentation": {
            "url": "https://ferritin.rs/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "ferritin-rust-documentation": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://ferritin.rs/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http ferritin-rust-documentation https://ferritin.rs/mcp
```

## When to use it
- look up a standard-library type in Rust docs
- check an API from a crate on crates.io
- find a documented item by name or search phrase

## Example prompts
- Look up `std::vec::Vec` in the Rust docs and explain its purpose.
- Check the `serde` documentation and describe what `Serialize` does.
- Search the `tokio` docs for `spawn` and summarize the relevant entry.
