Connects AI assistants to personal finance records over Streamable HTTP. It lets models review balances, read schemas, and record transactions using scoped permissions.

## What it does

This server links coding agents directly to a Postgres-backed personal finance tracker using remote Streamable HTTP. Five dedicated tools are exposed: `list_workspaces`, `get_schema`, `get_guide`, `sql_query`, and `sql_execute`. Assistants work against simplified financial tables by executing single SQL statements scoped to a specific workspace.

Authentication relies on standard OAuth flows pairing authorization codes with PKCE. The `expenses:read` scope grants access to schema inspection and data selection, while committing new transactions requires `expenses:write`. Attempting to call `sql_execute` without write permission triggers an authorization failure. MCP OAuth tokens and direct Agent API keys cannot be interchanged.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http expense-budget-tracker https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add sql-api --url https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sql-api": {
            "url": "https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "sql-api": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http sql-api https://mcp.expense-budget-tracker.com/mcp
```

## When to use it
- retrieve transaction histories and account balances with SQL queries
- insert financial records parsed from bank receipts into tracking tables
- check database schema definitions and column constraints prior to running queries
- restrict agent permissions between read-only inspection and write operations

## Example prompts
- Query my latest 15 grocery transactions using sql_query.
- Inspect the schema of ledger_entries with get_schema before making updates.
- Execute an insert for a 42.50 USD grocery payment via sql_execute.
