# e2a — email for AI agents

Provides dedicated email inboxes for AI agents to inspect, dispatch, and track mail threads. Useful when an agent requires its own address with human review safeguards.

## What it does

The integration connects to a hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint at `https://api.e2a.dev/mcp`. Authentication relies on an API token sent in the `Authorization: Bearer <e2a API key>` header or an interactive OAuth 2.1 browser flow. Available tools depend on the credential scope: individual agent tokens unlock 21 runtime operations for inbox handling, while account tokens grant access to all 80 tools for domain configuration, suppression lists, and webhooks.

Incoming messages arrive via HMAC-signed webhooks or polling through `list_messages`. Agents maintain existing conversations using `reply_to_message` to keep mail headers intact. Without a verified custom domain or operator clearance, dispatching messages to third-party recipients fails immediately with a 403 `external_sending_not_enabled` error.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://api.e2a.dev/mcp`

## Install

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://api.e2a.dev/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp --url https://api.e2a.dev/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp": {
            "url": "https://api.e2a.dev/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:

            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://api.e2a.dev/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http mcp https://api.e2a.dev/mcp
```
## When to use it
- provision dedicated email inboxes for autonomous coding agents
- reply to ongoing email threads while preserving message headers
- hold outgoing messages for account owner review before delivery
- receive inbound message alerts via cryptographically signed webhooks
## Example prompts
- Check for recent unread emails using `list_messages`.
- Reply to the latest conversation thread using `reply_to_message`.
- Inspect current sending limits and account identity with `whoami`.
