## What it does

DollhouseMCP keeps these elements in a local portfolio: `~/.dollhouse/portfolio/` on macOS and Linux, or `%USERPROFILE%\.dollhouse\portfolio\` on Windows. Describe an element in plain language to create it, edit one already there, or activate it. Active elements can change the AI’s behavior and add capabilities or permission policies.

For Claude Code, run the command in the FAQ. The server starts through `npx` using the `@dollhousemcp/mcp-server` package. You can also launch a browser setup wizard with `npx @dollhousemcp/mcp-server@latest --web`. Permission hooks vary by client: Cursor has partial native support, while Cline is limited to MCP setup in this release. That difference matters if your setup depends on permission hooks.
