## What it does

DNS-DATA operates as a hosted Streamable HTTP MCP service protected by OAuth 2.0 authentication. It routes model instructions directly to your registered personal computer. You do not need to configure port forwarding or open inbound firewall ports. The local runner maintains an outbound session to the hosted bridge.

The target workstation requires Node.js 18 or newer on Windows x64 or macOS Apple Silicon. You pair the machine by executing the dedicated CLI package in your terminal. Closing the terminal window running the `npx` launcher cuts off access immediately.

The free plan includes one linked computer and 10,000 tool executions each calendar month. Quotas reset automatically at 00:00 UTC on the first day of each month. Because the AI gets direct access to terminal commands and files, reviewing destructive operations before confirmation remains critical.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp`

## Install

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http remote https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add dns-data-remote --url https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "dns-data-remote": {
            "url": "https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "dns-data-remote": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http dns-data-remote https://mcp.dns-data.com/mcp
```

## When to use it
- inspect file trees and view files on a remote workstation
- check active background processes when local services crash
- run approved build steps and scripts via chat instructions
- verify connection health across paired Windows or Mac computers

## Example prompts
- List my paired computers and confirm which devices are online right now.
- Examine the project directory on my linked machine and inspect the README.
- Check background processes on the connected system to see why the local app failed.
