DJ Claude lets agents create music from prompts and build tracks together. Use it for an evolving soundtrack while you work in Claude Code.

## What it does

DJ Claude turns agent requests into music with Strudel. Agents can pick a preset or mood, write Strudel patterns, and adjust a mix by adding or removing parts. A conductor mode coordinates a full band from one instruction, while snapshots let you save and restore a mix. Multiple agents can also collaborate through an HTTP server.

You need Node.js 18 or later. An Anthropic API key is optional: presets and direct Strudel code work without one, while text-prompt music generation needs the key. Audio uses a Node.js backend by default; switching to browser audio requires a separate option, and without it some effects may sound rougher.

In Claude Code, add the MCP server with its CLI command; the plugin also provides slash commands for music controls. Claude Code asks permission for each MCP tool call by default. To let playback proceed without those prompts, configure permissions in `.claude/settings.json`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add dj-claude -- npx -y dj-claude
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add dj-claude -- npx -y dj-claude
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "dj-claude": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "dj-claude"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "dj-claude": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "dj-claude"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add dj-claude npx -y dj-claude
```

## When to use it
- create a music bed from a text prompt
- change the music mood during a coding session
- add a bass or drum part to a shared jam
- save a mix and bring it back later
- let multiple agents build a track together

## Example prompts
- Play calm music while I work on this change: `/dj-claude:play`
- Switch the mood to something energetic: `/dj-claude:vibe hype`
- Add a bass part to the jam: `/dj-claude:jam bass`
