# Devart MCP Server for Dynamics 365 (ADO.NET)

An MCP server that lets an AI client read and write Dynamics 365 data through plain-language requests. Handy when you want reports without exporting tables by hand.

## What it does

The server sits between your AI client and the Dynamics 365 database. A request in natural language becomes a structured query, Devart drivers execute it, and structured results come back. Access is schema-aware and works both ways: reads and writes.

There are two routes. The prebuilt Devart MCP Server plus Devart ODBC Driver for Dynamics 365, where you set up the connection and integration in a GUI. Or a source build requiring the .NET 8 SDK: the ADO.NET variant restores the dotConnect package from NuGet during the build, while the ODBC variant expects the ODBC driver installed by hand. Match the build bitness to your ODBC data source — a `win-x64` or `win-x86` target has to line up with the DSN, or the pairing fails.

After the build, drop an `mcpserver.json` next to the executable with a `Connections` array: connection name, a connection string or `DsnName`, and a transport of `stdio` or `http` (plus `HttpPort` for `http`). With `stdio` the client launches the server itself; with `http` you start it yourself, for example `Devart.AI.McpServer.AdoNet.Dynamics365.exe run my_dynamics365`. The ADO.NET sample string carries a `License Key` — no Devart license, no connection.

## Requirements
- Environment variables: `DEVART_MCP_DYNAMICS365_CONNECTION` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Install**
- The MCP registry has no launch command for it: see the repository README

## When to use it
- Pull a Dynamics 365 dataset with a plain-language question
- Build a business report without a manual export
- Insert or update records from inside an AI client
- Wire Dynamics 365 data into Cursor or Claude
- Run a local MCP server over your own data source

## Example prompts
- List the deals still open in Dynamics 365 this quarter
- How many active contacts does our Dynamics 365 account have?
- Add a new record to Dynamics 365 from this data
