# crabeye-mcp-bridge

Routes multiple MCP servers through one connection, with searchable tools and execution rules. Useful when an assistant has too many MCP schemas in context.

## What it does

crabeye-mcp-bridge places several MCP servers behind one STDIO connection. It builds an index with namespaces, then exposes two operations to the assistant: `search_tools` finds matching tools and `run_tool` invokes one. Other tool schemas stay out of the context until they are requested.

The bridge accepts STDIO, HTTP, and SSE upstreams. Rules can allow, ask for approval, or block execution at tool, server, or global scope. It also includes encrypted credential storage, `${credential:key}` references, the `auth <server>` OAuth flow for HTTP upstreams, and rate limiting.

Run `npx @crabeye-ai/crabeye-mcp-bridge init` to scan client configuration files and add the bridge. Without configured upstream servers, Claude Code surfaces a startup error in its MCP server log.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

```
### Codex
**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add crabeye-mcp-bridge -- npx -y @crabeye-ai/crabeye-mcp-bridge
```
### Cursor
**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json

    "mcpServers": {
        "crabeye-mcp-bridge": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@crabeye-ai/crabeye-mcp-bridge"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add crabeye-mcp-bridge npx -y @crabeye-ai/crabeye-mcp-bridge
```

## When to use it
- consolidate several MCP servers behind one connection
- search a growing MCP tool catalog
- control tool execution with approval policies
- store MCP credentials outside configuration files
- import existing client configurations into the bridge

## Example prompts
- Use `search_tools` to find a GitHub tool for this task.
- Call `run_tool` to execute the matching Linear tool with the task parameters.
- Search for available Slack tools, then choose one by its description.
