## What it does

This integration bridges coding agents with the Cove Data Protection API through the companion `cove-cli` binary. It lets your assistant check backup states and track storage changes across every connected environment. The server keeps local historical logs that the vendor web console drops.

The install package drops two separate tools: the command-line utility `cove-cli` and the MCP runner `cove-mcp`. Tool calls dispatch directly into the CLI executable. If you place the binaries manually, point the `COVE_CLI_PATH` environment variable to the executable.

Running `--transport http` is dangerous in the current release. The HTTP mode binds to all interfaces without password protection. Use stdio transport instead.

## Requirements
- Environment variables: `COVE_BASE_URL`, `COVE_PARTNER`, `COVE_PASSWORD`, `COVE_USERNAME` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Install**
- The MCP registry has no launch command for it: see the repository README

## When to use it
- inspect backup health across multiple client accounts
- analyze storage growth and capacity trends over time
- track billing usage without opening the vendor web panel
- detect stale or failed backup jobs from your terminal

## Example prompts
- List all client environments with failed backups in Cove Data Protection.
- Summarize storage consumption and billing changes across the fleet.
- Check the health of recent backup runs and highlight overdue targets.
