# continuum

A local MCP orchestrator that gives coding agents shared vector memory in SQLite. It coordinates tasks across git worktrees to keep parallel sessions from clashing.

## What it does

Continuum turns an MCP client into an orchestrator for your project. It seeds a workflow from `PLOT.md` through four phases: intake, research, verification, and handoff. Agents record project findings into SQLite with `sqlite-vec`, sorting rules into core constraints and situational notes. Future sessions retrieve those lessons through semantic search instead of asking you to repeat project rules.

The architecture runs on NestJS. It includes an Astro dashboard for inspection. By default, it builds 768-dimension vectors inside the process with Transformers.js. You do not need external API keys. If you want custom embeddings, set `EMBEDDER_URL` to target Ollama or a TEI instance.

Parallel work stays safe because the registry tracks file collisions using `reserved_paths`. If an active agent already claims a directory, the next task will not overwrite it. To run the system locally, you need Docker or Node `>=22.12.0` with pnpm `10.33+`.

## Requirements
- Needs: Docker
- Environment variables: `ORCHESTRATOR_DB_PATH`, `EMBEDDER_URL`, `EMBEDDER_MODEL`, `EMBEDDER_DIM` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Install**
- The MCP registry has no launch command for it: see the repository README

## When to use it
- share project context across separate Claude Code and Codex chats
- stop concurrent agents from modifying the same files in git
- store debugging insights in a local `sqlite-vec` vector database
- dispatch new tasks into isolated worktrees using `PLOT.md`

## Example prompts
- Read the project plot and generate a prompt for a fresh agent in a clean worktree.
- Search stored project lessons about retry handlers using `knowledge_search`.
- Check active agent statuses and locked directories via `registry_list`.
