# Concord MCP

Concord MCP gives coding agents a shared work state and a communication channel. Use it when several agents need to coordinate changes in one repository.

## What it does

Concord MCP lets coding agents exchange messages and share work state through one MCP server. They can claim project areas, detect overlapping edits before changing files, record decisions, and hand work to another agent with supporting context.

Running `concord setup` creates a local `.concord/` workspace, registers the server in supported client configurations, and adds agent instructions. Existing settings are merged rather than replaced, so setup can be run again. Use `concord adapters status` to inspect reachable sessions.

The npm installation requires Node.js. macOS and Linux users can choose a standalone build with its own Node runtime instead. Live message delivery depends on the receiving harness and its current session state.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add concord-mcp -- npx -y @concord-ai/concord-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add concord-mcp -- npx -y @concord-ai/concord-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "concord-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@concord-ai/concord-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "concord-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@concord-ai/concord-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add concord-mcp npx -y @concord-ai/concord-mcp
```

## When to use it
- coordinate several coding agents in one repository
- spot overlapping file ownership before edits
- hand a task to another agent with its context
- share decisions across coding clients
- check which agent sessions can receive messages

## Example prompts
- Ask two agents in the same repository to divide file ownership and report overlaps.
- Hand the API task to another agent with the decision record and supporting evidence.
- Check which sessions can exchange messages by running `concord adapters status`.
