# CommitLore

CommitLore keeps team decisions in Git and gives agents the rules that still apply to the file path they are about to change. It helps prevent rejected approaches from returning.

## What it does

CommitLore records constraints, discarded options, and warnings that the code itself cannot explain. It separates current, replaced, and expired records, selects entries relevant to a path such as `src/pricing.ts`, and supplies that context through MCP or a plugin hook. The information guides an agent; it does not stop an edit.

Records live in Git trailers or notes, while SQLite serves as a rebuildable index. Candidate entries are checked against the session transcript and staged diff, then delivered with a trust level such as claim, directive, or withheld content. Installation requires Node.js 22.23.2+ and Git; the installer checks both before writing files.

- preserve why an approach was rejected
- show an agent constraints for one file path
- separate current decisions from superseded ones
- keep an agent from reviving a discarded option
- store decision context with Git history

## Example prompts
- Check the active decisions for `src/pricing.ts` before editing it.
- Record the rejected approach and its reason with `commitlore capture`.
- Run `commitlore init`, then retrieve the context for the current path.
