# Claude Code Explorer MCP

## What it does

The server exposes navigation tools over the Claude source tree: list agent tools, list slash commands, read a specific tool or command implementation, read any file under `src/` by relative path, run a regex search, and pull an architecture overview. It also serves resources such as `claude-code://tools` and `claude-code://commands`, plus prompts like `explain_tool`, `how_does_it_work` and `compare_tools`.

Three transports are supported: STDIO, Streamable HTTP and legacy SSE. HTTP mode can require a bearer token via `MCP_API_KEY`. Point the server at your source with `CLAUDE_CODE_SRC_ROOT`; the default is `../src` relative to `dist/`. Build is the usual `npm install` followed by `npm run build`.

Deploying on Vercel is a poor fit for long-lived SSE streams, because those functions are stateless and time-limited. Use Railway or Docker instead. Locally you just need Node and the built `dist/index.js`.

## When to use it
- inspect how a specific agent tool is implemented
- regex-search the tree for permission checks
- get a full list of slash commands with descriptions
- read any file under `src/` by relative path
- walk through the Claude architecture layer by layer
