# Clippy

Clippy puts files, text, and Markdown into the macOS clipboard for pasting into GUI apps, email, and Slack from a terminal workflow.

## What it does

Clippy copies file references to the macOS clipboard, so GUI apps can receive an actual PDF, image, or group of files instead of raw bytes. It also accepts piped data, finds files through Spotlight, selects recent downloads, detects JSON, HTML, and XML, and can clear the clipboard.

The `md2rich` command prepares Markdown as HTML, RTF, and plain text for Gmail, Mail, and Mimestream. `md2slack` writes Slack formatting, while the `copy_slack` MCP tool reports formatting counts and warnings; preview mode leaves the clipboard unchanged. Clippy is macOS-only, so this workflow will not run on another operating system.

- pick a recent download without opening Finder

- paste formatted Markdown into Slack

- Copy `report.pdf` to the clipboard as a file so I can paste it into Slack.
- Turn `draft.md` into a rich email draft for Gmail.
- Prepare `notes.md` for Slack and show formatting warnings.
