# mcp

Lets an AI agent read and control a running React Native or Flutter app through Buoy devtools. Useful when you want requests, caches or state inspected inside the app itself.

## What it does

The server hooks your agent into a Buoy session — a set of tools that sit inside the app. The agent can look at network calls, storage, query caches, routes, renders and performance, and it can change them while the app runs. The same session also opens in Buoy Desktop, or you can use Ask Buoy from inside the app.

It starts with `npx -y @buoy-gg/mcp`. You need a development build and a Buoy account, Free or Pro. Without the account the session never comes up, so check that first.

Tools are installed one at a time: Network, Storage, Time Machine, Scenarios, Clock, Lifecycle, Location, Permissions, React Query, Routes, Redux, Zustand, Jotai and more. A manual setup begins with the core package and Network, then a sign-in through `npx --package=@buoy-gg/core buoy login`. Flutter has its own debug-build setup.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add mcp -- npx -y @buoy-gg/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add buoy-gg-mcp -- npx -y @buoy-gg/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "buoy-gg-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@buoy-gg/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "buoy-gg-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@buoy-gg/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add buoy-gg-mcp npx -y @buoy-gg/mcp
```

## When to use it
- inspect network requests from a running app
- edit cached data and force an error state
- rewind app state to an earlier point
- switch environments and sign in as a customer
- spot wasted re-renders and slow frames

## Example prompts
- Connect to the running app and show the latest network requests
- Replace the React Query cache entry and trigger the error screen
- Rewind the app state one step and show what changed
