## What it does

The server connects SAP OData services to MCP clients and turns plain-language requests into OData operations. Its tool layout includes request routing, 17+ layered tools, automatic call sequencing, KPI monitoring, and trend analysis. UI tools can generate SAP Fiori forms, sortable data grids, KPI dashboards, workflows, and drill-down reports.

Service discovery can use include and exclude patterns, business-domain presets, or an explicit whitelist. Authentication supports IAS, OAuth2, JWT, Basic Auth, and API keys, while XSUAA can enforce granular permissions. The server requires access to SAP BTP Cloud Foundry and the XSUAA, Identity, Connectivity, and Destination services.

Set the configuration through environment variables, install dependencies with `npm install`, then build with `npm run build:btp` and deploy using `npm run deploy:btp`. Node.js >= 18 is required. That prerequisite matters before wiring the server into an MCP client.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Environment variables: `SAP_IAS_URL`, `SAP_IAS_CLIENT_ID`, `SAP_IAS_CLIENT_SECRET`, `SAP_DESTINATION_NAME`, `ODATA_DISCOVERY_MODE`, `ODATA_INCLUDE_PATTERNS`, `ODATA_EXCLUDE_PATTERNS`, `PORT`, `NODE_ENV` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env SAP_IAS_URL=<SAP_IAS_URL> --env SAP_IAS_CLIENT_ID=<SAP_IAS_CLIENT_ID> --env SAP_IAS_CLIENT_SECRET=<SAP_IAS_CLIENT_SECRET> --env SAP_DESTINATION_NAME=<SAP_DESTINATION_NAME> --env ODATA_DISCOVERY_MODE=<ODATA_DISCOVERY_MODE> --transport stdio btp-sap-odata-to-mcp-server-optimized -- npx -y btp-sap-odata-to-mcp-server
```
Replace <…> with your own values. 4 more environment variables are in the server README

## When to use it
- discover SAP services with include and exclude patterns
- turn a plain-language request into an OData query
- assemble a KPI dashboard with trend analysis
- create a validated SAP Fiori form
- control service access through XSUAA

## Example prompts
- Find SAP OData services matching `*API*` and `Z*`.
- Turn this question into an SAP OData request and return the result: which orders need attention?
- Create a sales KPI dashboard with drill-down by SAP service.
