## What it does

BankMCP™ links your coding assistant to bank accounts across 2,700+ European financial institutions via PSD2. It runs either as a local process with npx or as a self-hosted container. The server is strictly read-only, which rules out initiating payments or moving funds.

The architecture routes assistant queries via OAuth to your local server, which contacts Enable Banking using signed JWT tokens. Your server retains authorization keys and consent tokens but avoids saving transaction histories or balances on disk. Local runtime configuration lives inside `~/.bankmcp`, or under `/data` when deployed in a container.

The local setup requires Node 24 or newer, failing immediately on older runtimes. You will also need a free Enable Banking account to issue an application key and generate the initial `.pem` certificate.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
