# mcp

Hands your agent Appwrite's API: databases, users, functions, teams, storage. Connects over OAuth in the browser, no keys to paste.

## What it does

The server turns Appwrite's API into tools an MCP client can call. Your agent creates a collection, lists users, deploys a function or serves files without you writing the request by hand.

In Claude the setup is `claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.appwrite.io/`, then `/mcp`, pick the server and approve access in the browser. Nothing to copy: the first connection opens an Appwrite consent screen where you grant scopes. The same server also answers at `https://mcp.appwrite.io/mcp`.

Some clients need a stdio bridge instead. Cline and JetBrains AI Assistant / Junie don't do OAuth for remote MCP servers yet, so those need Node.js and `npx -y mcp-remote https://mcp.appwrite.io/`. Antigravity insists on the `serverUrl` key for remote transport; with `url` or `httpUrl` tool registration fails silently, and you won't see an error.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Remote server: `https://mcp.appwrite.io/`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.appwrite.io/
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add appwrite-mcp -- uvx mcp-server-appwrite
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-server-appwrite <command>

### Codex

1. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add appwrite-mcp --url https://mcp.appwrite.io/
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add appwrite-mcp -- uvx mcp-server-appwrite
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-server-appwrite <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "appwrite-mcp": {
            "url": "https://mcp.appwrite.io/"
        }
    }
}
```
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:

    "mcpServers": {
        "appwrite-mcp": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-server-appwrite"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-server-appwrite <command>
### GitHub Copilot
**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "appwrite-mcp": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.appwrite.io/"
        }
    }
}

            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-server-appwrite"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-server-appwrite <command>
### Gemini CLI
1. **Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http appwrite-mcp https://mcp.appwrite.io/
```
2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add appwrite-mcp uvx mcp-server-appwrite
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-server-appwrite <command>
## When to use it
- create a collection and its fields from the chat
- list and filter project users
- deploy a function and check its execution
- serve files through Appwrite storage
- set up a team and assign roles
## Example prompts
- Connect the Appwrite MCP server and list my collections
- Create an `orders` collection in Appwrite with `userId` and `total` fields
- Deploy the `sendEmail` function and report its status
