# Apple Shortcuts

This MCP server lets an agent list, inspect, and run Apple Shortcuts on macOS. Use it when a coding client needs to trigger existing Mac workflows.

## What it does

Apple Shortcuts exposes the Shortcuts library through MCP. An agent can discover available shortcuts, inspect a chosen shortcut, and run it on the Mac instead of handling each action manually.

You need macOS, Python 3.11+, and `uv` for the setup. Register the server in Claude Code and restart the client afterward. The server will not run without macOS.

Set `APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE` when the client configuration needs an explicit safety profile. Shortcuts usually does not show a separate permission prompt; `shortcuts_health` can check the connection state. Returned data may still be sent from the MCP client to its model provider.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)
- Environment variables: `APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add --env APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE=<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE> --transport stdio appleshortcuts-mcp -- uvx apple-shortcuts-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from apple-shortcuts-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add appleshortcuts-mcp --env APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE=<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE> -- uvx apple-shortcuts-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from apple-shortcuts-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "appleshortcuts-mcp": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "apple-shortcuts-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE": "<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from apple-shortcuts-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "appleshortcuts-mcp": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "apple-shortcuts-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE": "<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from apple-shortcuts-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add -e APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE=<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE> appleshortcuts-mcp uvx apple-shortcuts-mcp
```
Replace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from apple-shortcuts-mcp <command>
