# Anki MCP Server

Wires Anki into an AI assistant: reviews, notes, decks and media over AnkiConnect. Handy for language learners and exam prep.

## What it does

The server turns AnkiConnect calls into MCP tools. An assistant can pull due cards, present them one at a time, take your rating and schedule the next appearance. Study flow stays conversational.

A second group covers content. Notes get created in bulk, found through Anki search syntax, edited field by field, moved between decks. Some tools reach into the desktop interface itself — read whatever note is selected, drop a local image into its front field.

Deck numbers need care. One set reflects today's queue after daily limits; another counts cards by state, ignoring due dates. They answer different questions.

Anki must be running with AnkiConnect enabled, otherwise the requests have nowhere to land. The authors point most people to the add-on with code `124672614`, which runs the server inside Anki and skips Node.js entirely. Pick this repository when you need STDIO transport and your client spawns the server as a subprocess.

## When to use it
- run through due cards and record ratings
- build a batch of RTL-styled vocab notes
- attach a downloaded image to the active note
- move a next review date without logging a lapse
- count cards per state across a deck

## Example prompts
