## What it does

The server gives coding assistants direct access to documents, ebooks, spreadsheets, and emails. It turns complex file structures into Markdown while keeping headings, code blocks, tables, and footnotes intact. Word documents retain tracked revisions and comments.

Conversion runs both ways. An agent can draft Markdown notes and export them straight to DOCX or PDF. It also handles text search across archives and chunking for retrieval pipelines. Scanned files require `--pdf-ocr-enabled` to trigger OCR processing.

Execution relies on the `uvx` runner. Because of this, you must have `uv` or a working Python setup on your machine beforehand. Launching the server will fail if the underlying runtime is missing.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add all2md -- uvx all2md
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from all2md <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add all2md -- uvx all2md
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from all2md <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "all2md": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "all2md"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from all2md <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "all2md": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "all2md"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from all2md <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add all2md uvx all2md
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from all2md <command>

## When to use it
- inspect structured PDF documents directly inside agent chat
- turn docx files with tables and footnotes into Markdown
- export generated Markdown responses directly into Word documents
- search inside presentation decks and spreadsheets via CLI commands

## Example prompts
- Summarize key terms from `contract.pdf`
- Convert `specification.docx` into Markdown while keeping all tables
- Save this draft into `release_notes.docx`
