# agentmako

A local engine that hands your agent a small tool surface for reading a project before touching it. Useful when you open an unfamiliar repo.

## What it does

agentmako indexes your repository and keeps the facts in a local SQLite store. The agent asks questions through `reef_ask`, and the server answers with pointers to files, routes, symbols and earlier findings. That replaces long tool chains and raw grep sweeps with one query.

The Reef engine gathers facts from the indexed state, the working tree and staged files. It also extracts project conventions: auth guards, runtime boundaries, generated paths, route patterns. Diagnostics come in from TypeScript, ESLint, Oxlint, Biome and staged git. Rule packs live in `.mako/rules` as YAML and reload on change. There is a local dashboard, plus optional Postgres/Supabase schema inspection.

Node.js 20 or newer is required. The first run is meant to go with `--no-db`, so code intelligence works before you add database scope. Database access is wired later through `DATABASE_URL`. Everything runs on your machine; no hosted service is involved.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Works with: PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add agentmako -- npx -y agentmako
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add agentmako -- npx -y agentmako
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "agentmako": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "agentmako"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "agentmako": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "agentmako"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add agentmako npx -y agentmako
```

## When to use it
- figure out which files and routes matter in an unfamiliar repo
- locate symbols and tables tied to a specific task
- check diagnostic freshness before calling work done
- see the blast radius of a changed file
- keep review notes on tables and RLS

## Example prompts
- Ask Mako where to inspect auth route state
- Run `reef_status` and show which files changed and what diagnostics went stale
- Run `reef_impact` on the changed file and show me the blast radius
