## What it does

The tool connects your coding assistant to Afi SaaS backup infrastructure. Direct API queries hit strict rate limits, so this server mirrors data locally. That mechanism lets administrators inspect backup health across client fleets and verify offboarding archives without delays.

Installation delivers two executables: the `afi-mcp` server and the `afi-cli` binary. Every MCP tool delegates work to that local CLI. Running `--transport http` is unsafe because it binds to all network interfaces without authentication. Keep your setup on the default `stdio` transport.

Agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor connect directly over MCP. Integrations that require remote HTTP endpoints, such as ChatGPT, remain paused until an updated release fixes network transport security.

## Requirements
- Environment variables: `AFI_API_KEY`, `AFI_BASE_URL` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
