Checks papers for citation issues, copied text, AI-generated writing and venue rules. It is useful when documents must stay on your machine.

## What it does

AEGIS runs several checks over a paper: it validates references and DOI metadata through Crossref and OpenAlex, compares text with a local corpus, looks for AI-written passages and tests formatting against IEEE, ACM, BCS, IET, ISACA and Elsevier guidance. The MCP server communicates over stdio, while document files remain on the local machine.

Plagiarism checks use papers that you add to the comparison corpus with `aegis_index_add`; they do not crawl the live web. With no corpus loaded, that module reports that prior works have not been added. Accepted inputs are `.pdf`, `.docx`, `.tex` and `.txt` files up to 50 MB, and online citation verification sends reference metadata only.

Claude Code can call tools for a full paper review, citation checks, venue rules, paper comparison, corpus management and setup status. Treat the output as evidence for human review, not as a final misconduct decision.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add aegis-integrity -- uvx aegis-integrity
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aegis-integrity <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add aegis-academic-integrity-checker -- uvx aegis-integrity
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aegis-integrity <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "aegis-academic-integrity-checker": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "aegis-integrity"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aegis-integrity <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "aegis-academic-integrity-checker": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "aegis-integrity"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aegis-integrity <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add aegis-academic-integrity-checker uvx aegis-integrity
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aegis-integrity <command>

## When to use it
- verify references and DOI metadata
- compare two paper versions for overlap
- check formatting against journal rules
- search a supplied corpus for reused text
- diagnose which integrity checks are ready

## Example prompts
- Check the references in `paper.docx` and list suspicious DOIs.
- Compare `v1.docx` with `v2.docx` for text overlap.
- Tell me whether this paper is ready for an Elsevier journal.
