## What it does

abell is an MCP server connected with Abell and its AI tooling. Abell itself is a low-level, framework-agnostic static-site generator: it builds pages from `.abell` files and evaluates JavaScript expressions inside templates.

The server runs through the `abell-ai` package. Claude Code uses `claude mcp add abell -- npx -y abell-ai`, while Codex has its own `codex mcp add abell -- npx -y abell-ai` command. Cursor and GitHub Copilot use JSON configuration, and Gemini CLI has a separate MCP add command.

The setup calls `npx`, so the environment must be able to run it. The Abell README also shows a project flow with `npx create-abell`, entering the project directory, and running `npm run dev`. That is the application setup, separate from registering the MCP server.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add abell -- npx -y abell-ai
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add abell -- npx -y abell-ai
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "abell": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "abell-ai"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "abell": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "abell-ai"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add abell npx -y abell-ai
```

## When to use it
- connect Abell to Claude Code
- add the Abell MCP server to Codex or Cursor
- scaffold an Abell project with `npx create-abell`
- render JavaScript expressions from `.abell` files into HTML

## Example prompts
- Connect the `abell` MCP server to this project.
- Create an Abell project with `npx create-abell my-abell-site`.
- Show how an expression from a `.abell` file becomes HTML.
