# AAI Gateway

A gateway that keeps MCP servers and skills in one place: the agent pulls them in on demand and sees a short summary in context.

## What it does

AAI stands for Agent App Interface. An MCP server and a skill package both count as an Agent App here: import once and every connected agent gets it. One shared setup instead of pasting the same JSON into Claude, Codex and Cursor.

The server ships its own tools. `search:discover` finds and installs from a plain-language description, `mcp:import` and `skill:import` add a server or a skill, `listAllAaiApps` lists what is registered, `enableApp` and `disableApp` toggle an app for one agent. Every imported app gets an `app_<app-id>` tool that returns the operation guide and tool list when called. Full schemas load on demand, so the agent does not carry them in every session.

It runs through `npx -y aai-gateway`, which means Node.js and a working `npx` on the machine. Developers can get an app picked up automatically with an `aai.json` descriptor whose checks cover `command`, `file` or `path`; there is no auto-discovery without that file.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add aai-gateway -- npx -y aai-gateway
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add aai-gateway -- npx -y aai-gateway
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "aai-gateway": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "aai-gateway"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "aai-gateway": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "aai-gateway"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add aai-gateway npx -y aai-gateway
```

## When to use it
- Wire one MCP server into several agents without copying configs
- Find and install a tool from a description instead of reading READMEs and editing JSON
- Keep context small by loading schemas only when a tool is called
- Enable or disable an app per agent
- Register your own app so agents discover it automatically

## Example prompts
- Use AAI to find and install a browser automation tool
- Import the `playwright` MCP server as an Agent App
- List all registered Agent Apps and disable `codex` for this project
