## What it does

2D Assets MCP generates PNG files inside the project folder through an AI client. It can produce sprites, animation spritesheets, buttons, health bars, and other interface elements. Visual options include gradients, pattern overlays, transparency, rotated text, and labels that scale to fit the asset.

Generated PNGs carry JSON metadata in EXIF with details such as dimensions, colors, shapes, gradients, patterns, text, and strokes. File names include dimensions, which helps models without vision identify an asset. The server writes to the path supplied by the AI client, so access should be limited to the game project and output paths should be reviewed before confirmation. Claude Code setup uses `npx` with the `2d-assets-mcp` package.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add 2d-assets-mcp -- npx -y 2d-assets-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add 2d-assets-mcp -- npx -y 2d-assets-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "2d-assets-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "2d-assets-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "2d-assets-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add 2d-assets-mcp npx -y 2d-assets-mcp
```

## When to use it
- create a PNG placeholder for a game object
- build a spritesheet for a short animation
- draw a health bar with a chosen fill level
- prepare a button or other game UI element
- test scale and animation timing before final art

## Example prompts
- Create an attack button as `button_attack_128x48.png` with a red gradient and the label ATTACK.
- Generate a hero idle-animation spritesheet and save it in the project folder.
- Make `health_bar_200x24.png` with the bar filled to 75 percent.
