## What it does

This command runs static analysis across frontend files to detect CWE-79 cross-site scripting flaws. It looks for dangerous DOM sinks such as `innerHTML`, `outerHTML`, and `document.write`. It also catches risky URL assignments via `location.href` or `window.open` receiving user inputs.

Framework checks target specific template patterns. It flags unescaped `dangerouslySetInnerHTML` calls in React and catches raw `v-html` directives across Vue templates. A finding is marked dangerous whenever input props lack explicit `DOMPurify` sanitization calls.

Unchecked URL assignments easily allow `javascript:` execution. Every reported issue includes severity classification, line coordinates, the affected source snippet, and a ready-to-use fix enforcing strict protocol checks or HTML sanitization.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install frontend-mobile-security@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/xss-scan.md` — Call it with /xss-scan. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/xss-scan.md` — Call it with /prompts:xss-scan. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/xss-scan.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/xss-scan.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/frontend-mobile-security/commands/xss-scan.md

## When to use it
- Detect raw HTML injections via `dangerouslySetInnerHTML` and `v-html`
- Catch tainted user input routed into `location.href` assignments
- Generate sanitization code using the `DOMPurify` library
- Audit client-side JavaScript files against CWE-79 injection vectors

## Example prompts
- Audit the `src` folder for XSS vulnerabilities and suggest DOM sanitization fixes
- Scan React components for unsafe `dangerouslySetInnerHTML` usage
- /xss-scan src/

# XSS Vulnerability Scanner for Frontend Code

You are a frontend security specialist focusing on Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability detection and prevention. Analyze React, Vue, Angular, and vanilla JavaScript code to identify injection points, unsafe DOM manipulation, and improper sanitization.

## Context

The user needs comprehensive XSS vulnerability scanning for client-side code, identifying dangerous patterns like unsafe HTML manipulation, URL handling issues, and improper user input rendering. Focus on context-aware detection and framework-specific security patterns.

## Instructions

### 1. XSS Vulnerability Detection

Scan codebase for XSS vulnerabilities using static analysis:

```typescript
interface XSSFinding {
  file: string;
  line: number;
  severity: "critical" | "high" | "medium" | "low";
  type: string;
  vulnerable_code: string;
  description: string;
  fix: string;
  cwe: string;
}
  private vulnerablePatterns = [
    "innerHTML",
    "outerHTML",
    "document.write",
    "insertAdjacentHTML",
    "window.open",
  ];
