## What it does

This command coordinates automation pipelines using a dependency graph. When invoked, it checks for existing configs like `Taskfile.yml` or `*.workflow.json`. It also reads system crontabs and active processes.

Workflows handle parallel test suites and conditional branching. You can configure loops across deployment environments or define automated retry attempts. The engine takes arguments like `create`, `run`, `schedule`, and `monitor`.

Execution requires `Bash` access. If a task invokes Node or Python scripts, the matching runtime must exist in `PATH`, or the job aborts immediately.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command automation/workflow-orchestrator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/workflow-orchestrator.md` — Call it with /workflow-orchestrator. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/workflow-orchestrator.md` — Call it with /prompts:workflow-orchestrator. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/workflow-orchestrator.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/workflow-orchestrator.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/automation/workflow-orchestrator.md

## When to use it
- Define task pipelines with dependencies and timeouts
- Run test suites in parallel with completion barriers
- Deploy across multiple environments in an automated loop
- Inspect active system crontabs and background processes

## Example prompts
- Create a deployment pipeline using `/workflow-orchestrator create`
- Execute the workflow via `/workflow-orchestrator run deployment-workflow`
- Check running jobs with `/workflow-orchestrator monitor`
