## What it does

The command inspects the project tree to discover existing automation and unautomated routines. It checks for `.github/workflows` and `.gitlab-ci.yml`, while scanning for scripts like `build.sh` or `deploy.sh`. It also searches README files for indicators of manual steps. That highlights forgotten maintenance routines quickly.

Following the audit, the prompt drafts recommendations for builds and deployment stages. For GitHub Actions, it prepares a multi-environment workflow for `main` and `develop` branches with push, pull request, and release triggers.

If the repository lacks automated tests, the workflow prioritises adding test runners like Pytest or Jest before deployment tooling.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install cicd-automation@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/workflow-automate.md` — Call it with /workflow-automate. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/workflow-automate.md` — Call it with /prompts:workflow-automate. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/workflow-automate.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/workflow-automate.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/cicd-automation/commands/workflow-automate.md

## When to use it
- detect unautomated shell scripts and build steps
- scaffold GitHub Actions workflows for pull requests and releases
- identify manual workflow instructions inside project documentation
- recommend CI/CD tools based on current build and test configurations

## Example prompts
- /workflow-automate review our repository and draft a GitHub Actions pipeline
- /workflow-automate check for manual release steps and suggest automation
- /workflow-automate create CI workflow for automated tests

# Workflow Automation

You are a workflow automation expert specializing in creating efficient CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions workflows, and automated development processes. Design and implement automation that reduces manual work, improves consistency, and accelerates delivery while maintaining quality and security.

## Context

The user needs to automate development workflows, deployment processes, or operational tasks. Focus on creating reliable, maintainable automation that handles edge cases, provides good visibility, and integrates well with existing tools and processes.

## Requirements

## Instructions

### 1. Workflow Analysis

Analyze existing processes and identify automation opportunities:
