## What it does

The command walks from project analysis to production deploy. It first inspects the current state: working directory, git branch, whether Vercel CLI is present, and the `.next/` folder. Then it reads `next.config.js`, `vercel.json`, `package.json` and env files if they exist.

Optimization comes next. It suggests image settings (formats, sizes, cache), security headers, function config with runtime, memory and timeout, and cache headers for API routes. Bundle analysis runs through a build with `ANALYZE=true`. Deployment uses `vercel --prod` or plain `vercel` for previews, with an option to pass an env file.

After the push it points to `@vercel/analytics` and `@vercel/speed-insights` for Core Web Vitals, and to `vercel rollback` for reverting. One caveat: without Vercel CLI installed and the project linked to Vercel, the deploy steps go nowhere — worth checking before you run it. The command needs Read, Write, Edit and Bash permissions.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command nextjs-vercel/vercel-deploy-optimize
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/vercel-deploy-optimize.md` — Call it with /vercel-deploy-optimize. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/vercel-deploy-optimize.md` — Call it with /prompts:vercel-deploy-optimize. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/vercel-deploy-optimize.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/vercel-deploy-optimize.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/nextjs-vercel/vercel-deploy-optimize.md

## When to use it
- build and ship a Next.js app to Vercel from the terminal
- spot bundle bloat before a release
- set security headers and API caching rules
- hook up Core Web Vitals monitoring after deploy
- roll back to a previous deployment when production breaks

## Example prompts
- /vercel-deploy-optimize production --analyze
- /vercel-deploy-optimize preview
- /vercel-deploy-optimize production --preview

## Configuration Analysis

### Project Configuration
- Next.js config: @next.config.js
- Vercel config: @vercel.json (if exists)
- Package.json: @package.json
- Environment variables: @.env.local (if exists)
- Environment example: @.env.example (if exists)

### Vercel Configuration
Analyze and optimize `vercel.json` configuration:
```json
  ],
## Pre-Deployment Optimization
### 1. Build Optimization
Run comprehensive build analysis:
- **Bundle Analysis**: Generate bundle analyzer report
- **Performance Check**: Analyze build output for optimization opportunities
- **Type Checking**: Ensure TypeScript compilation is error-free
- **Lint Check**: Run ESLint for code quality
```bash
# Build optimization commands
npm run build
npm run lint
npm run type-check # If TypeScript project
```
### 2. Performance Optimization
#### Image Optimization Check
```javascript
// Verify Next.js image configuration
const nextConfig = {
  images: {
    formats: ['image/webp', 'image/avif'],
    deviceSizes: [640, 750, 828, 1080, 1200, 1920, 2048, 3840],
    imageSizes: [16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 256, 384],
    minimumCacheTTL: 31536000,
    dangerouslyAllowSVG: false,
    contentSecurityPolicy: "default-src 'self'; script-src 'none'; sandbox;",
  },
};
```
#### Bundle Analysis
Generate and analyze webpack bundle:
```bash
ANALYZE=true npm run build
# or
npm run build -- --analyze
```
### 3. Environment Configuration
#### Environment Variables Setup
Ensure proper environment variable configuration:
- **Production**: Verify all required environment variables are set in Vercel dashboard
- **Preview**: Configure preview environment variables
- **Development**: Local development environment setup
### 4. Security Headers Optimization
```javascript
// Enhanced security headers in next.config.js
const securityHeaders = [
  {
    key: 'X-DNS-Prefetch-Control',
    value: 'on'
  },
  {
    key: 'Strict-Transport-Security',
    value: 'max-age=63072000; includeSubDomains; preload'
  },
  {
    key: 'X-XSS-Protection',
    value: '1; mode=block'
  },
  {
    key: 'X-Frame-Options',
    value: 'SAMEORIGIN'
  },
  {
    key: 'Permissions-Policy',
    value: 'camera=(), microphone=(), geolocation=()'
  },
  {
