## What it does

This command scaffolds a Unity environment tailored to 2D, 3D, mobile, console, or VR platforms. It builds out the `Assets/_Project/` hierarchy for scripts, scenes, audio, and prefabs while adding packages like Universal Render Pipeline (URP), Cinemachine, Addressables, and the Input System.

It generates starter C# components including `GameManager.cs`, `AudioManager.cs`, and `SaveSystem.cs`. Custom editor windows, assembly definitions, and `InputActions.inputactions` files are created alongside. For source control, it configures a Unity-specific `.gitignore` file and Git LFS rules for large binary assets.

Execution depends on `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `Bash` access. The workflow inspects the environment using `unity-editor --version` and Git status commands before writing files. If the Unity Editor binary is not in your system path, environment detection will skip editor version logging.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unity

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command game-development/unity-project-setup
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/unity-project-setup.md` — Call it with /unity-project-setup. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/unity-project-setup.md` — Call it with /prompts:unity-project-setup. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/unity-project-setup.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/unity-project-setup.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/game-development/unity-project-setup.md

## When to use it
- scaffold an organized Unity folder hierarchy under Assets/_Project/
- generate boilerplate C# managers for audio, scenes, and save states
- set up Git LFS and .gitignore rules for game binary assets
- configure Input System actions and platform-specific quality tiers

## Example prompts
- Set up a new 3D desktop project with URP using unity-project-setup
- /unity-project-setup MyMobileGame --mobile
- Configure a VR project template with Git LFS and input actions
