## What it does

This command guides the agent through a six-step systems thinking framework. It maps stocks, flows, and causal boundaries before analyzing reinforcing and balancing loops. The process tests time-based behavior patterns and detects non-linear consequences.

The prompt configuration enables `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `WebSearch` tools. This gives Claude Code direct access to read existing project notes, check external facts, and write the dynamic model into files. Execution accepts dedicated flags like `--business-ecosystem`, `--organizational-dynamics`, `--market-evolution`, or `--feedback-loops`.

Running the command without passing a concrete system domain produces generic archetypes rather than actionable leverage points. The generated output delivers causal diagrams, simulation insights, and policy interventions tailored to the chosen structure.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command simulation/system-dynamics-modeler
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/system-dynamics-modeler.md` — Call it with /system-dynamics-modeler. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/system-dynamics-modeler.md` — Call it with /prompts:system-dynamics-modeler. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/system-dynamics-modeler.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/system-dynamics-modeler.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/simulation/system-dynamics-modeler.md

## When to use it
- map causal feedback loops, stock variables, and delay mechanisms
- simulate behavior patterns in market evolution and business ecosystems
- identify policy leverage points for organizational interventions
- uncover unintended consequences in complex operational structures

## Example prompts
- /system-dynamics-modeler --business-ecosystem
- /system-dynamics-modeler --market-evolution
- /system-dynamics-modeler "workforce churn and morale" --feedback-loops

# System Dynamics Modeler

Model complex system dynamics with comprehensive feedback analysis and emergent behavior prediction: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Current System Context

- System type: Based on $ARGUMENTS (business ecosystem, organizational dynamics, market evolution, feedback loops)
- System boundaries: Components, stakeholders, and environmental factors included in the model
- Key variables: Stock and flow variables, feedback mechanisms, and delay structures
- Behavior patterns: Current system performance and historical dynamics

## Task

Build comprehensive system dynamics model with feedback loops and emergent behavior analysis:

**System Type**: Use $ARGUMENTS to model business ecosystems, organizational dynamics, market evolution, or feedback loop systems

**System Dynamics Framework**:
1. **System Architecture** - Stock and flow identification, causal loop mapping, and boundary definition
2. **Feedback Structure** - Reinforcing loops, balancing loops, and delay modeling with policy resistance analysis
3. **Dynamic Simulation** - Time-based behavior analysis, scenario testing, and sensitivity analysis
4. **Emergent Behavior** - Non-linear effects, unintended consequences, and system archetypes identification
5. **Policy Testing** - Intervention analysis, leverage point identification, and strategy optimization
6. **Learning Laboratory** - What-if experimentation, mental model testing, and insight generation

**Advanced Features**: Nonlinear modeling, stochastic elements, multi-level hierarchy modeling, and behavioral dynamics integration.

**Strategic Applications**: Policy design, organizational change, strategic planning, and complex problem solving with systems thinking.

**Output**: Complete system dynamics model with causal structure, simulation results, policy recommendations, and strategic insights for complex system optimization and management.
