## What it does

The command checks a pull request for Linear task IDs in its title, description, branch name, and commit messages. It can use PR state and review details to update a task, add a PR reference or comment, and put task context on GitHub.

Pass a PR number or an option such as `--task`, `--auto-detect`, `--enable-auto`, or `--update-state` to choose the action. It gets repository context with `gh repo view`, so automatic PR detection may fail when that context is unavailable.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub, Linear

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command sync/sync-pr-to-task
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/sync-pr-to-task.md` — Call it with /sync-pr-to-task. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/sync-pr-to-task.md` — Call it with /prompts:sync-pr-to-task. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/sync-pr-to-task.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/sync-pr-to-task.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/sync/sync-pr-to-task.md

## When to use it
- find a Linear task referenced by a pull request
- map PR state to a task status
- attach PR links and comments to a Linear task
- turn on synchronization between GitHub and Linear

## Example prompts
- Link pull request `42` to its Linear task: `/sync-pr-to-task 42`.
- Find the Linear task for the current pull request: `/sync-pr-to-task --auto-detect`.
- Update the task state from the pull request: `/sync-pr-to-task --update-state`.
