## What it does

The command handles Supabase backups in one call. It creates database snapshots, exports schema and data, checks backup integrity and tests the restore process. Scheduling is part of the job too: automated runs, failure notifications, backup windows.

The steps run from strategy to disaster recovery. It designs retention policies, sets up incremental copies, compresses and archives old backups to keep storage in check. For monitoring it scans the project for `*.yml` and `*.json` files that mention `backup` or `cron`, which tells you where your existing automation already sits.

Everything goes through an MCP integration with Supabase, so that has to be configured first. Tool access is limited to `Read`, `Write`, `Edit` and `Bash`. The argument picks the operation: `--backup`, `--restore`, `--schedule`, `--validate` or `--cleanup`. With no Supabase project connected the command can neither snapshot nor verify a restore, so check that connection before you rely on it.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command database/supabase-backup-manager
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/supabase-backup-manager.md` — Call it with /supabase-backup-manager. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/supabase-backup-manager.md` — Call it with /prompts:supabase-backup-manager. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/supabase-backup-manager.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/supabase-backup-manager.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/database/supabase-backup-manager.md

## When to use it
- snapshot a Supabase database before a migration
- verify that a backup actually restores
- set up a recurring backup schedule
- prune old backups and free up storage
- document the recovery procedure for an outage

## Example prompts
- /supabase-backup-manager --backup
- /supabase-backup-manager --validate
- /supabase-backup-manager --schedule

# Supabase Backup Manager

Manage comprehensive Supabase database backups with automated scheduling and recovery validation: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Current Backup Context

- Supabase project: MCP integration for backup operations and status monitoring
- Backup storage: Current backup configuration and storage capacity
- Recovery testing: Last backup validation and recovery procedure verification
- Automation status: !`find . -name "*.yml" -o -name "*.json" | xargs grep -l "backup\|cron" 2>/dev/null | head -3` scheduled backup configuration

## Task

Execute comprehensive backup management with automated procedures and recovery validation:

**Backup Operation**: Use $ARGUMENTS to specify backup creation, data restoration, schedule management, backup validation, or cleanup procedures

**Backup Management Framework**:
1. **Backup Strategy** - Design backup schedules, implement retention policies, configure incremental backups, optimize storage usage
2. **Automated Backup** - Create database snapshots, export schema and data, validate backup integrity, monitor backup completion
3. **Recovery Procedures** - Test restore processes, validate data integrity, implement point-in-time recovery, optimize recovery time
4. **Schedule Management** - Configure automated backup schedules, implement backup monitoring, setup failure notifications, optimize backup windows
5. **Storage Optimization** - Manage backup storage, implement compression strategies, archive old backups, monitor storage costs
6. **Disaster Recovery** - Plan disaster recovery procedures, test recovery scenarios, document recovery processes, validate business continuity

**Advanced Features**: Automated backup validation, recovery time optimization, cross-region backup replication, backup encryption, compliance reporting.

**Monitoring Integration**: Backup success monitoring, failure alerting, storage usage tracking, recovery time measurement, compliance reporting.

**Output**: Complete backup management system with automated schedules, recovery procedures, validation reports, and disaster recovery planning.
