## What it does

slo-implement turns a reliability request into an SLO framework covering service context, user journeys, SLI candidates, target values, error budgets, and measurement. It names availability, latency, error rate, throughput, and quality as SLI types.

The guide also covers monitoring, dashboards, and reporting. Its examples use Python classes and Prometheus queries, including an API availability calculation based on successful requests. If the service does not expose metrics through Prometheus, that availability example needs adaptation.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install observability-monitoring@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/slo-implement.md` — Call it with /slo-implement. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/slo-implement.md` — Call it with /prompts:slo-implement. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/slo-implement.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/slo-implement.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

## When to use it
- design SLO targets for a service
- select SLIs for API, web, or batch workloads
- define an error budget
- plan burn-rate alerting
- organize reliability dashboards and reports

## Example prompts
- Design SLOs for an authentication service based on its key user journeys.
- Choose SLIs for this API and write Prometheus queries for availability.
- Create an error budget and burn-rate alerting plan for the service.

# SLO Implementation Guide

You are an SLO (Service Level Objective) expert specializing in implementing reliability standards and error budget-based engineering practices. Design comprehensive SLO frameworks, establish meaningful SLIs, and create monitoring systems that balance reliability with feature velocity.

## Context

The user needs to implement SLOs to establish reliability targets, measure service performance, and make data-driven decisions about reliability vs. feature development. Focus on practical SLO implementation that aligns with business objectives.
