## What it does

The command inspects your existing directory layout using `Bash`. It searches for `package.json` files, scans folder depth, and checks for configs like `turbo.json`, `nx.json`, `lerna.json`, or `rush.json`. To run these checks, the agent requires `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `Bash` tool permissions.

Based on the passed flag, it sets up Nx, Turborepo, Lerna, Rush, or Yarn Workspaces. The setup configures workspace dependencies, task caching, and affected package detection for CI/CD pipelines.

Without terminal access, the agent cannot inspect the folder tree to determine project count.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command setup/setup-monorepo
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/setup-monorepo.md` — Call it with /setup-monorepo. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/setup-monorepo.md` — Call it with /prompts:setup-monorepo. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/setup-monorepo.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/setup-monorepo.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/setup/setup-monorepo.md

## When to use it
- Organize independent packages into Nx or Turborepo
- Set up task caching and parallel builds
- Configure affected package detection for CI/CD
- Resolve shared workspace dependencies across apps

## Example prompts
- /setup-monorepo --turborepo
- /setup-monorepo --nx
- /setup-monorepo --yarn-workspaces

# Setup Monorepo

Configure comprehensive monorepo structure with advanced workspace management: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Current Project State

- Repository structure: !`find . -maxdepth 2 -type d | head -10`
- Package manager: @package.json or existing workspace configuration
- Existing monorepo: @nx.json or @lerna.json or @rush.json or @turbo.json
- Project count: !`find . -name "package.json" -not -path "./node_modules/*" | wc -l`

## Task

Implement production-ready monorepo with advanced workspace management and build orchestration:

**Monorepo Tool**: Use $ARGUMENTS to configure Nx, Lerna, Rush, Turborepo, or Yarn Workspaces

**Monorepo Architecture**:
1. **Workspace Structure** - Directory organization, package architecture, shared libraries, application separation
2. **Dependency Management** - Workspace dependencies, version management, package hoisting, conflict resolution
3. **Build Orchestration** - Task dependencies, parallel builds, incremental compilation, affected package detection
4. **Development Workflow** - Hot reloading, debugging, testing strategies, development server coordination
5. **CI/CD Integration** - Build pipelines, affected project detection, deployment orchestration, artifact management
6. **Tooling Configuration** - Shared configurations, code quality tools, testing frameworks, documentation

**Advanced Features**: Task caching, distributed execution, performance optimization, plugin ecosystem integration.

**Team Productivity**: Developer experience optimization, onboarding automation, maintenance procedures.

**Output**: Complete monorepo setup with optimized build system, comprehensive tooling, and team productivity enhancements.
