Runs SAST checks for vulnerabilities across several languages and frameworks. Use it during code review, before deployment, or for legacy code assessment.

## What it does

The command scans Python, JavaScript and TypeScript, Java, Ruby, PHP, Go, and Rust. Its checks cover SQL injection, XSS, hardcoded secrets, path traversal, IDOR, CSRF, unsafe deserialization, and command injection. Framework patterns include Django, Flask, React, Express, Spring Boot, Rails, and Laravel.

It can work with Bandit, Semgrep, ESLint Security, SonarQube, CodeQL, PMD, SpotBugs, Brakeman, gosec, and cargo-clippy. Semgrep rules can be added for organization-specific policies. The listed commands produce JSON reports, and Semgrep also has a CI mode.

Each check depends on its scanner being available. Python scans use `bandit` or `semgrep`, while JavaScript and TypeScript checks require ESLint with security plugins.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install security-scanning@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/security-sast.md` — Call it with /security-sast. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/security-sast.md` — Call it with /prompts:security-sast. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/security-sast.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/security-sast.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/security-scanning/commands/security-sast.md

## When to use it
- scan source code for SQL injection and XSS
- locate hardcoded keys, passwords, and tokens
- flag unsafe file paths and shell execution
- apply OWASP checks and custom Semgrep policies

## Example prompts
- Run `/security-scanning:security-sast` and audit this project for security vulnerabilities.
- Run `/security-scanning:security-sast` to look for secrets, SQL injection, and XSS.
- Run `/security-scanning:security-sast`, select the relevant scanners, and create JSON reports.

# SAST Security Plugin

Static Application Security Testing (SAST) for comprehensive code vulnerability detection across multiple languages, frameworks, and security patterns.

## Capabilities

- **Multi-language SAST**: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Ruby, PHP, Go, Rust
- **Tool integration**: Bandit, Semgrep, ESLint Security, SonarQube, CodeQL, PMD, SpotBugs, Brakeman, gosec, cargo-clippy
- **Vulnerability patterns**: SQL injection, XSS, hardcoded secrets, path traversal, IDOR, CSRF, insecure deserialization
- **Framework analysis**: Django, Flask, React, Express, Spring Boot, Rails, Laravel
- **Custom rule authoring**: Semgrep pattern development for organization-specific security policies

## When to Use This Tool

Use for code review security analysis, injection vulnerabilities, hardcoded secrets, framework-specific patterns, custom security policy enforcement, pre-deployment validation, legacy code assessment, and compliance (OWASP, PCI-DSS, SOC2).

**Specialized tools**: Use `security-secrets.md` for advanced credential scanning, `security-owasp.md` for Top 10 mapping, `security-api.md` for REST/GraphQL endpoints.

## SAST Tool Selection

### Python: Bandit

```bash
# Installation & scan
pip install bandit
bandit -r . -f json -o bandit-report.json
bandit -r . -ll -ii -f json  # High/Critical only
```

**Configuration**: `.bandit`

```yaml
exclude_dirs: ["/tests/", "/venv/", "/.tox/", "/build/"]
tests:
  [
    B201,
    B301,
    B302,
    B303,
    B304,
    B305,
    B307,
    B308,
    B312,
    B323,
    B324,
    B501,
    B502,
    B506,
    B602,
    B608,
  ]
skips: [B101]
```

### JavaScript/TypeScript: ESLint Security

```bash
npm install --save-dev eslint @eslint/plugin-security eslint-plugin-no-secrets
eslint . --ext .js,.jsx,.ts,.tsx --format json > eslint-security.json
```

**Configuration**: `.eslintrc-security.json`

```json
{
  "plugins": ["@eslint/plugin-security", "eslint-plugin-no-secrets"],
  "extends": ["plugin:security/recommended"],
  "rules": {
    "security/detect-object-injection": "error",
    "security/detect-non-literal-fs-filename": "error",
    "security/detect-eval-with-expression": "error",
    "security/detect-pseudo-random-prng": "error",
    "no-secrets/no-secrets": "error"
  }
}
```

```bash
pip install semgrep
semgrep --config=auto --json --output=semgrep-report.json
semgrep --config=p/security-audit --json
semgrep --config=p/owasp-top-ten --json
```yaml
rules:
  - id: sql-injection-format-string
