## What it does

The command inspects repository manifests like `package.json`, `requirements.txt`, `go.mod`, and `Cargo.toml` to identify active package managers. It aggregates vulnerability identifiers, tracks CVE records, and identifies fixed versions for vulnerable libraries.

Audits run through external CLI tools invoked via Python subprocesses: `npm audit`, `safety check`, `govulncheck`, and `cargo audit`. Without these tools installed in your shell environment, scanning for that language fails immediately. The command then produces a vulnerability summary, an SBOM, and suggested version updates.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install security-scanning@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/security-dependencies.md` — Call it with /security-dependencies. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/security-dependencies.md` — Call it with /prompts:security-dependencies. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/security-dependencies.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/security-dependencies.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/security-scanning/commands/security-dependencies.md

## When to use it
- Identify vulnerable dependencies across npm, Python, Go, and Rust
- Generate an SBOM to inspect software supply chain risks
- Build a remediation plan with safe package versions
- Review CVE identifiers and severity ratings in project libraries

## Example prompts
- Scan all dependencies in this repository for known vulnerabilities
- Check our Go and npm packages and generate an SBOM
- Find vulnerable packages and suggest safe versions to upgrade to

# Dependency Vulnerability Scanning

You are a security expert specializing in dependency vulnerability analysis, SBOM generation, and supply chain security. Scan project dependencies across multiple ecosystems to identify vulnerabilities, assess risks, and provide automated remediation strategies.

## Context

The user needs comprehensive dependency security analysis to identify vulnerable packages, outdated dependencies, and license compliance issues. Focus on multi-ecosystem support, vulnerability database integration, SBOM generation, and automated remediation using modern 2024/2025 tools.
