## What it does

The command reads project description or README, splits it into major components (epics), parent tasks and subtasks with acceptance criteria. Assigns labels (`frontend`, `backend`, `testing`, `documentation`), priority and effort estimates to each task. Builds dependency graph and critical path.

Works through Linear MCP server: before running, the command checks workspace access. Output is a complete Linear project structure with epics, nested tasks and timeline.

Command arguments: project description, `--team-id` (Linear team ID), `--create-new` (create new project), `--epic-name` (epic name).

## Requirements
- Works with: Linear

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command project-management/project-to-linear
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/project-to-linear.md` — Call it with /project-to-linear. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/project-to-linear.md` — Call it with /prompts:project-to-linear. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/project-to-linear.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/project-to-linear.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

## When to use it
- break project requirements into epics and tasks
- create task hierarchy in Linear with dependencies
- assign labels, priorities and effort estimates
- build project critical path
- sync project structure to Linear workspace

## Example prompts
- Create Linear task structure for the project from `README.md`
- Break the project into epics and tasks with `backend` label and priority
- Sync project plan to Linear with `--team-id TEAM-123`

# Project to Linear

Sync project structure and requirements to Linear workspace: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Linear Integration Status

- Linear MCP: Check if Linear MCP server is configured
- Workspace access: !`echo "Test Linear connection if MCP available"`
- Project context: @README.md or project documentation
- Requirements: Based on $ARGUMENTS analysis

## Task

Analyze project requirements and create comprehensive Linear task structure:

**Project Analysis Process**:
1. **Requirement Analysis** - Parse project description and identify major components
2. **Task Breakdown** - Create hierarchical task structure with epics and subtasks
3. **Dependency Mapping** - Identify task dependencies and critical path
4. **Linear Integration** - Create project, epics, and tasks in Linear workspace
5. **Validation** - Review created structure and provide project overview

**Task Organization**:
- Epic-level features and major components
- Parent tasks for feature areas
- Detailed subtasks with acceptance criteria
- Proper labeling (frontend, backend, testing, documentation)
- Priority and effort estimates
- Timeline and dependency relationships

**Output**: Complete Linear project structure with organized task hierarchy, clear descriptions, and actionable items.
