## What it does

The command checks GitHub CLI authentication and Linear MCP access, then helps assess data volume, dependencies, and migration complexity. It uses `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `Bash` for its operations.

Its workflow covers migration planning, risk assessment, progress checks, and validation of data and user workflows. GitHub CLI authentication, Linear MCP connectivity, and available backup storage are prerequisites; without them, the prerequisite checks cannot pass.

After the migration, it can report validation results and rollback readiness. Choose an action with `--plan`, `--analyze`, `--migrate`, `--verify`, or `--rollback`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command team/migration-assistant
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/migration-assistant.md` — Call it with /migration-assistant. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/migration-assistant.md` — Call it with /prompts:migration-assistant. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/migration-assistant.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/migration-assistant.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/team/migration-assistant.md

## When to use it
- estimate migration scope and complexity
- map dependencies before moving data
- validate data integrity after a migration
- plan a rollback and restore the prior state

## Example prompts
- Use `--plan` to outline the migration and its dependencies.
- Analyze migration risks and data volume with `--analyze`.
- Run the migration with `--migrate`, then validate the result using `--verify`.

# Migration Assistant

Execute comprehensive system migrations with planning, verification, and rollback capabilities: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Current Migration Context

- Source systems: GitHub CLI authentication and API access status
- Target systems: Linear MCP server connectivity and permissions
- Backup storage: Available storage space and backup verification
- Migration scope: Data volume estimation and complexity assessment

## Task

Execute systematic migration process with comprehensive safety measures and validation:

**Migration Action**: Use $ARGUMENTS to specify migration planning, analysis, execution, verification, or rollback operations

**Migration Framework**:
1. **Prerequisites Validation** - Verify GitHub CLI authentication, confirm Linear MCP connectivity, validate permissions, ensure backup storage
2. **Migration Planning** - Assess data volume and complexity, design migration strategy, identify dependencies, create rollback plan
3. **Risk Analysis** - Evaluate potential failure points, assess data integrity risks, identify system dependencies, plan contingency measures
4. **Execution Management** - Implement migration phases, monitor progress and health, handle errors gracefully, maintain audit trails
5. **Verification Process** - Validate data integrity, confirm system functionality, test user workflows, verify performance metrics
6. **Rollback Procedures** - Implement safe rollback mechanisms, restore system state, validate recovery, communicate status updates

**Advanced Features**: Incremental migration support, real-time progress monitoring, automated health checks, comprehensive logging, emergency stop mechanisms.

**Safety Measures**: Multi-point backups, integrity validation, rollback testing, system health monitoring, stakeholder communication.

**Output**: Complete migration execution with progress tracking, validation reports, rollback readiness, and post-migration optimization recommendations.
