## What it does

\`gws-licensing` runs Google Workspace Licensing actions through the `gws` CLI. Its `licenseAssignments` resource can assign or revoke a license, retrieve one for a user and product SKU, list assignments, and move a user to another SKU with `patch` or `update`.

The command checks the local CLI, authentication, and available licensing methods before an API call. Use `gws schema licensing.<resource>.<method>` to inspect required parameters, then build the request with `--params` and `--json`. Paginated results can use `--max-results` or `--page-token`.

The `gws` CLI must be installed and authenticated first. Licensing actions will fail until authentication is configured.

## Requirements
- Works with: Google Workspace

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command google-workspace/gws-licensing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/gws-licensing.md` — Call it with /gws-licensing. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/gws-licensing.md` — Call it with /prompts:gws-licensing. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/gws-licensing.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/gws-licensing.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

## When to use it
- assign a Google Workspace license
- revoke a user license
- look up a license by product SKU
- list users assigned to a product
- move a user to another SKU

## Example prompts
- Run `/gws-licensing` and check authentication before assigning a Google Workspace license.
- Use `/gws-licensing` to list users assigned to a product and SKU.
- Ask `/gws-licensing` to inspect a method schema and prepare the request with `--params` and `--json`.

# Google Workspace Licensing

Execute Google Workspace Licensing operations: $ARGUMENTS

## Prerequisites

- Google Workspace CLI (`gws`) must be installed
- Authentication configured: Run `gws auth status` to verify
- Review `gws licensing --help` for all available commands

## Available Resources and Methods

# licensing (v1)

> **PREREQUISITE:** Read `../gws-shared/SKILL.md` for auth, global flags, and security rules. If missing, run `gws generate-skills` to create it.

```bash
gws licensing <resource> <method> [flags]
```

## API Resources

### licenseAssignments

  - `delete` — Revoke a license.
  - `get` — Get a specific user's license by product SKU.

## Discovering Commands

Before calling any API method, inspect it:

```bash
# Browse resources and methods
gws licensing --help
# Inspect a method's required params, types, and defaults
gws schema licensing.<resource>.<method>
```

Use `gws schema` output to build your `--params` and `--json` flags.

## Usage

```bash
# List available resources and methods
gws licensing --help
# Inspect method schema before calling
gws schema licensing.<resource>.<method>
# Execute command with arguments
gws licensing $ARGUMENTS
```

## Task

Execute the requested Licensing operation: $ARGUMENTS

1. **Verify Prerequisites**
   - Check `gws` is installed: `gws --version`
   - Verify authentication: `gws auth status`
   - Review available commands: `gws licensing --help`

2. **Inspect Method Schema**
   - Before calling any method, inspect its parameters
   - Use `gws schema` to understand required fields
   - Review parameter types and constraints

3. **Execute Operation**
   - Build command with appropriate flags
   - Use `--params` for query/path parameters
   - Use `--json` for request body
   - Handle pagination with `--max-results` or `--page-token`

4. **Error Handling**
   - Check command output for errors
   - Review API quotas and rate limits
   - Handle authentication issues
   - Retry transient failures
