## What it does

Give the command a resource, a method and flags, and it maps them onto `gws admin <resource> <method> [flags]`. The reference covers Directory API resources such as `users`, `groups`, `members`, `chromeosdevices`, `mobiledevices`, `orgunits`, `roles`, `roleAssignments`, `schemas`, `domains`, `domainAliases`, `tokens`, `privileges`, `asps`, `channels`, `twoStepVerification`, `customers` and `resources`.

You need the Google Workspace CLI `gws` on the machine first. Run `gws auth status` to confirm authentication, and `gws admin --help` for the full command list. Skip that step and nothing runs.

Some methods come with caveats. `members list` and `mobiledevices list` time out after 60 minutes. `chromeosdevices action` is marked deprecated in favour of `BatchChangeChromeOsDeviceStatus`. Deprovisioning a Chrome OS device halts policy syncing and drops device-level printers, and the device must be wiped before it can be enrolled again. Nested group membership checks only work when both entities sit in the same domain; for outside entities you need the Cloud Identity Groups API.

## Requirements
- Works with: Google Workspace

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command google-workspace/gws-admin
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/gws-admin.md` — Call it with /gws-admin. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/gws-admin.md` — Call it with /prompts:gws-admin. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/gws-admin.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/gws-admin.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/google-workspace/gws-admin.md

## When to use it
- create a group in the domain and delete it later
- add a user to a group or remove one
- list Chrome OS and mobile devices on the account
- move devices into an organizational unit
- assign a role or review existing role assignments

## Example prompts
- List every user in the domain with `gws admin users list`
- Add this employee to the `engineering@example.com` group
- Move the devices into the `Sales` OU
