## What it does

The command runs a performance audit and writes up what it finds: where frame rate drops, how memory is spent, what the shaders and shadows cost. It starts by scanning the project for engine files, build configs, assets and profiling logs, then sorts the findings by severity and proposes fixes.

An argument picks the focus: `--fps`, `--memory`, `--rendering` or `--comprehensive`. Platform guidance is part of the output too — mobile battery and thermal limits, console notes, PC hardware scaling, VR requirements, WebGL specifics. The command works with `Read`, `Write`, `Edit` and `Bash`.

You get four deliverables: an audit report with metrics and severity ratings, prioritized recommendations with difficulty and impact, a monitoring setup, and a testing strategy for target devices. Project detection leans on files like `*.pbxproj`, `*.gradle` and `*.vcxproj`, so if those are missing you describe the context yourself.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command game-development/game-performance-profiler
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/game-performance-profiler.md` — Call it with /game-performance-profiler. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/game-performance-profiler.md` — Call it with /prompts:game-performance-profiler. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/game-performance-profiler.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/game-performance-profiler.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/game-development/game-performance-profiler.md

## When to use it
- spot frame rate and batching bottlenecks
- estimate texture and audio memory usage
- review shader complexity and overdraw
- collect platform-specific optimization advice
- set up regression tracking for performance

## Example prompts
- /game-performance-profiler --fps
- /game-performance-profiler --memory
- /game-performance-profiler --comprehensive
