## What it does

\`feature-analyzer` guides a request through a discovery phase. It creates a task list, asks about the problem, expected behavior, constraints, and requirements when the idea is unclear, then summarizes its understanding for confirmation.

Next, the command invokes the `feature-design-assistant` skill through the `Skill` tool and follows that skill’s process. Its declared tools include `Read`, `Write`, `Grep`, `Glob`, `Bash`, `TodoWrite`, `AskUserQuestion`, and `Task`. For a major change, this is a sensible first step because the design is discussed before implementation begins.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command orchestration/feature-analyzer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/feature-analyzer.md` — Call it with /feature-analyzer. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/feature-analyzer.md` — Call it with /prompts:feature-analyzer. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/feature-analyzer.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/feature-analyzer.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/orchestration/feature-analyzer.md

## When to use it
- clarify a feature before coding it
- gather requirements for a new capability
- surface project constraints
- confirm the intended behavior with the user
- turn a feature idea into a design and specification

## Example prompts
- Run `/feature-analyzer` and ask it to design a notification feature, starting with requirement questions
- Use `/feature-analyzer Add PDF export for reports`
- Run `/feature-analyzer` before a major authorization refactor and ask what needs to change

## Phase 1: Discovery

**Goal**: Understand what needs to be built

Initial request: $ARGUMENTS

**Actions**:
1. Create todo list with all phases
2. If feature unclear, ask user for:
   - What problem are they solving?
   - What should the feature do?
   - Any constraints or requirements?
3. Summarize understanding and confirm with user

---

## Phase 2: Run with Feature Analyzer Skill

Use the Skill tool to invoke the "feature-design-assistant" skill and follow its complete process.
