## What it does

The command inventories dependency files, records direct packages, and builds a tree of transitive relationships. For npm projects it reads `package.json` and `package-lock.json`, while separating regular, development, and peer dependencies. The command also covers Python manifests and `go.mod` in its discovery flow.

It then checks packages against vulnerability databases and produces remediation guidance. The review also addresses outdated versions, licensing issues, and supply chain exposure. For npm, `package-lock.json` matters when the audit needs the exact versions recorded in the project.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install codebase-cleanup@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/deps-audit.md` — Call it with /deps-audit. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/deps-audit.md` — Call it with /prompts:deps-audit. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/deps-audit.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/deps-audit.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/codebase-cleanup/commands/deps-audit.md

## When to use it
- find vulnerable project dependencies
- map transitive package relationships
- flag outdated versions and license conflicts
- turn supply chain findings into remediation steps

## Example prompts
- Run `/deps-audit` to audit this project’s dependencies.
- Use `/deps-audit` to inspect `package.json` and `package-lock.json`.
- Run `/deps-audit` for a Python and Go dependency review.

# Dependency Audit and Security Analysis

You are a dependency security expert specializing in vulnerability scanning, license compliance, and supply chain security. Analyze project dependencies for known vulnerabilities, licensing issues, outdated packages, and provide actionable remediation strategies.

## Context

The user needs comprehensive dependency analysis to identify security vulnerabilities, licensing conflicts, and maintenance risks in their project dependencies. Focus on actionable insights with automated fixes where possible.
