## What it does

Run `/constraint-modeler` with a domain or a flag: `--business`, `--technical`, `--regulatory`, or `--resource`. The command groups constraints as hard, soft, or dynamic, maps how they affect one another, and outlines ways to validate the model.

Its output includes a constraint model, interaction matrices, a validation report, and optimization recommendations. It also covers sensitivity analysis, bottlenecks, and scenario boundaries. The command uses project documentation or configuration files for context, so constraints need to be described separately when those materials do not capture them.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command simulation/constraint-modeler
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/constraint-modeler.md` — Call it with /constraint-modeler. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/constraint-modeler.md` — Call it with /prompts:constraint-modeler. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/constraint-modeler.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/constraint-modeler.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/commands/simulation/constraint-modeler.md

## When to use it
- classify system limits as hard, soft, or dynamic
- map dependencies between constraints
- check whether a constraint model is accurate and relevant
- identify bottlenecks and define scenario boundaries
- draft options for relaxing or replacing constraints

## Example prompts
- Model the system's technical constraints and map their dependencies: `/constraint-modeler --technical`.
- Build a model of business constraints for resource planning: `/constraint-modeler --business`.
- Analyze regulatory constraints and define scenario boundaries: `/constraint-modeler --regulatory`.

# Constraint Modeler

Model comprehensive system constraints with systematic validation and optimization: **$ARGUMENTS**

## Current System Context

- Domain scope: Based on $ARGUMENTS (business, technical, operational, financial)
- Existing constraints: @documentation or configuration files
- System boundaries: Current limitations and dependencies
- Change dynamics: Historical constraint evolution patterns

## Task

Create comprehensive constraint models for accurate simulation and decision-making:

**Constraint Domain**: Use $ARGUMENTS to focus on business, technical, regulatory, or resource constraints

**Constraint Framework**:
1. **Hard Constraints** - Absolute limits that cannot be violated (legal, physical, technical)
2. **Soft Constraints** - Preferences and trade-offs that can be managed (budget, quality, timing)
3. **Dynamic Constraints** - Limitations that evolve over time (market, technology, capacity)
4. **Constraint Dependencies** - Relationships and interactions between different limitations
5. **Validation Framework** - Methods to verify constraint accuracy and relevance
6. **Optimization Strategies** - Approaches to relax, substitute, or circumvent constraints

**Advanced Analysis**: Constraint sensitivity analysis, bottleneck identification, scenario boundary definition, and optimization algorithms.

**Strategic Application**: Link constraint models to decision scenarios, resource allocation, and strategic planning.

**Output**: Complete constraint model with interaction matrices, validation reports, optimization recommendations, and scenario boundary definitions.
